Frequently Asked Maths Questions
The only way to practise Maths is to do questions.
Keep trying exam-style questions under exam conditions (allowing no more than 12 minutes for a short question or 25 minutes for a long question, not stopping to check notes on how to do something).
Make sure not to leave any blanks, try something.
Parts of a question you are not able to do correctly highlights something you need to practise.
Higher Level Maths is the only subject that gives 25 bonus points and therefor many students face a tough decision on whether to stick with it, or drop to Ordinary Level Maths.
Rob Browne, our Higher Level Maths teacher, advises students to monitor how much time you are spending studying Maths. If you are increasingly needing to give more time to this, at the detriment of other subjects, it may be time to question if Higher Level is for you.
Tracy Gannon, Ordinary Level Maths teacher, adds that if you are going to drop to do it as early in the year as you can, as some content will differ from the Higher Level Maths exam.
In Higher Level Maths Paper 1, you are examined on:
- Algebra and Functions
- Area and Volume
- Complex Numbers
- Calculus
- Financial Maths
- Sequences & Series
In Higher Level Maths Paper 2, you are examined on:
- Co-Ordinate Geometry
- Geometry
- Probability
- Statistics
- Trigonometry
